ROTJ ENDOR LEIA - WONDERCON 2014

One of my friends invited me to go with her to Wondercon Anaheim in 2014 and I spent every minute of the week leading up to the event slapping this together. It came out really great, especially considering it was one of my first major projects of the type.

I improvised the pattern for the poncho, and made it from lightweight cotton fabric. I used spray paint to make the camoflauge pattern. The pants were thrifted and my mom helped me sew the yellow ribbon down the side for the stripe. The shirt was someone's old scout uniform, also thrifted. Belt from military surplus, pouch from dollar store, and watch from the good ol' Factory 2 U. I already had the boots!!

Can't lie, I felt like a star. A handful of people asked to take pictures with me, and someone even asked if I was part of rebel leigion. That was my first time hearing about them, but now I understand that's high praise considering how strict their costume requirements are.
(BTW I checked their standards recently and this costume does NOT qualify LMAO they're intense).

My favorite person i met that day was a girl maybe 10 years old who was wearing the same costume and had an ewok plushie. We took a picture together but I can't find it :'(

Here's the wig! This was probably the hardest part of preparing this costume! I used an old half-wig that my mom already had and sewed additional wefts into it in order to achieve the fullness I wanted. I divided the hair into four sections to braid: two at the top and two underneath. I did the bottom two braids and rolled them into buns. The top braids were then criss-crossed and wrapped around the buns.
The headband of the wig already had two braids on it but Leia's two crown braids are much larger than these. I sewed one braid to the headband and then pinned the second one to my own hair.
